Honest Review: 5 Nights at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru
Just spent 5 nights at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru for our anniversary. Here's my brutally honest review.
ā **Overall Rating: 4.2/5**
ā
**The Good:**
- Beach front location is unbeatable
- Sunset views from our balcony were magical š
- Staff remembered our names (impressive!)
- Breakfast buffet had amazing variety
- Pool area well-maintained, not crowded
- Spa treatments worth the price
ā **The Bad:**
- Room furnishings look dated (needs renovation)
- WiFi kept dropping in our room
- Minibar prices are insane (RM 28 for Coke?!)
- Beach has seaweed during low tide
- Airport noise occasionally noticeable
š° **What We Paid:**
- Deluxe Ocean View: RM 890/night
- Total with taxes: RM 5,120 for 5 nights
- Worth it? Mostly yes, but not during peak season
š½ļø **Food Review:**
- Kinabalu Restaurant (breakfast): 9/10
- Appu's (Indian): 8/10
- Beach BBQ: 7/10 (overpriced but nice ambiance)
- Room service: 6/10 (slow and lukewarm)
š” **Tips for Future Guests:**
1. Request floor 5+ for better views
2. Book directly with hotel (cheaper than Agoda)
3. Ask for honeymoon perks if applicable
4. Avoid peak season (prices double)
5. Try the chocolate buffet on Fridays
Would I return? Yes, but only if they renovate the rooms. The location and service are what keep this place relevant.
